What type of appointment do you need to book?

Birth registration appointments

  • It is a legal requirement to register a birth within 42 days of your baby being born
  • You will need a birth certificate when applying for any benefits related to the birth of a child
  • If your baby was born within the borough of Ealing please contact the register office to request a birth registration appointment

Death registration appointments

  • Appointments to register a death can only be made when the Medical Examiner has sent the medical certificate of cause of death (MCCD) to the register office, or when the Coroner has advised you to book an appointment
  • Death registrations must be completed within 5 days of the register office receiving the documentation

Notice appointments

  • Once you have booked your ceremony venue you must give notice of your intention to marry or form a civil partnership to gain legal authority for your ceremony to proceed
  • The earliest you can give notice is one year before the date of your ceremony
  • The latest you can give notice is 28 days before the date of your ceremony (this may be extended to 70 days, if either of you is subject to immigration control)
